RAMP KIMCHI DEMO at Callicoon Ramp Fest

The Farmhouse Project and Black Walnut are presenting a day-long celebration of ramps, our beloved local wild leek. Offerings include an artisan market, foraging and garden talks, live music, children’s activities, a community baking contest, and ramp-based food and drink at dining establishments around town.

Laura Chávez Silverman, founding naturalist of The Outside Institute, will demonstrate how to make naturally fermented ramp kimchi and discuss the history of ramps, best practices for foraging (and controversies surrounding them) and other methods of preserving this delicious wild plant that thrives in our region. A tasting of last year’s batch will be offered and recipes will be provided so you can try this at home.

Location: Callicoon Depot, 40 Lower Main Street, 11am-5pm. Demo starts at 11:30am.
