Maple Tapping & Tasting, plus Guided Walk & Chili Cook-off
Join us for this epic annual event co-hosted by Smokey Belles Catskills Artist Homestead at their circa 1955 Cabine and Ye Olde New England House on the picturesque Ten Mile River in Narrowsburg, NY. Founding naturalist Laura Chávez Silverman will lead a walk through the winter landscape to observe trees (especially maples & birches) and other seasonal flora and fungi. Anie Stanley will demonstrate the traditional method for tapping trees and you’ll taste sap directly from the source, as well as maple syrup being boiled down right on-site. We’ll gather around the campfire for a variety of chilis*, buckwheat cornbread with maple butter, black walnut cake with maple icing and botanical libations, including crabapple-maple hot toddies, chaga tea and mulled cider. Space is limited. Registration is required. (Free for kids 12 and under.)
Location: Narrowsburg, NY. Details will be emailed to participants.
Of note: *To enter the cook-off, bring a batch of your favorite chili in a slow cooker or crock pot (so we can keep it warm). Prizes include a two-night stay at Catskills Petite Cabine!
There will be fires and a woodstove burning, but please wear your warmest outdoor gear, including sturdy waterproof boots, gloves, hats, etc. Walking sticks and ice cleats could come in handy.
We will track the weather and cancel or reschedule with several days notice, as needed; a full refund will be available.
For our policies, including cancellation, please visit Terms & Conditions.
