Sunday, October 12th, 10:30am-12:30pm

Foraging & Plant ID Walk.

What does it mean to be native to place? In celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, founding naturalist Laura Chávez Silverman invites you on a walk to witness an amazing perched boulder that appears intentionally placed by ancestral inhabitants. We will discuss the role of “Lenape stones” and how we can honor the history and practices of the native tribes. We will proceed to a beautiful lake, observing and identifying edible and medicinal plants and trees and learning about endemic and introduced species. A light trail snack will be served. Space is limited. Advance registration is required.

Location: High Point State Park in Sussex, NJ, just outside Port Jervis, NY. Exact meeting place will be emailed to participants.

Of note: This is a rain or shine event, unless advance notice is given. Walk is slow-paced on relatively flat terrain.
